About Optical Africa
A few years ago Wendren visited the Escher Museum in The Netherlands and left resolving to develop a range that would create a trickery similar to so many of Escher’s works. Upon returning to African soil she found that many African printed textiles had a similar intrigue that captures you as you learn about the fable, story or message that is being portrayed. Marrying these two inspirations, the Optical Africa concept was born.
Wendren wrote to graphic artist Diana Ejaita: “Wren sleeves and bags are a wooden door to an electronic world. Our products are a tactile adventure and we want it to engage all the senses: touch, sight, and now the mind, as we bring another level of wonder to our products with this new range.”
How do we make them? Reclaimed brown paper is collected from a local packaging factory. This is then screen-printed and fused to a special cotton to make it strong enough to stitch. Once made up by our team of very skilled seamstresses the sleeve is sprayed with Nano Liquid Glass to be water resistant.
And there is more: There are two pockets – one for the device and the other for pens, papers, cables – or whatever you wish to use a second pocket for. To close, the laptop sleeve has a hidden press-stud in the center that ensures that your laptop is kept snug and safe in it’s sleeve. There are also two hidden magnets that hold the flap corners down to keep it looking smart.
