A Beautiful World
South Africa, a land of endless natural beauty, is the setting for the original collaboration between local artist Sharon Bonzaaier and designer Wendren Setzer. Celebrated for her expressive ink work, Sharon chose this medium for its rich, explosive colour and fluid movement, capturing the magic of endemic Fynbos vegetation, the restless energy of the South Easterly winds that sweep across the slopes of Table Mountain, and the deep ombré gradients that echo the Cape’s coastal waters.
Together, Sharon and Wendren curated four themes that celebrate the richness of the natural world: Ocean, Wildlife, Botanical, and Wilderness. The first three themes are deeply rooted in the landscapes and biodiversity of South Africa, honouring the textures, colours and life found across the region. The fourth theme, Wilderness, is inspired by the the vast landscapes and iconic wildlife of North America.
Rendered entirely in Sharon Bonzaaier’s original ink technique, each design captures movement, colour and narrative bringing the spirit of wild landscapes, from the Cape to the Northern wilderness, vividly to life.
Ocean
The meeting of two of the most energetic ocean currents off the shores of South Africa sets the tone for this vibrant, playful design. From the delicate shyshark to the playful penguin this artwork radiates life. Whether you prefer to watch the whales from the shoreline or dive in the kelp forests, there is something for you to find.
Wildlife
Inspired by the African animals that if you are lucky, you spot on safari: The Black Rhino hiding deep in the bush. The precious and very protected little Dung Beetle that rolls balls of Elephant dung across the track (and is given due respect with gold foiling inside the flap of the sleeve). The majestic Lion, king of the beasts. The fastest of all the land animals, the Cheetah.
This wild composition celebrates the unique patterns and shapes of Africa’s creatures; big and small.
Botanical
Inspired by the richest floral Kingdom in the world; The Cape Floral Kingdom. One of the smallest in size but yet it is home to 8600 plant species and some 5000 of which occur nowhere else in the world. Fed by the South-easterly winds, hidden from time to time under blankets of cloud, the Cape Flora and its beautiful creatures cover the surface of the Botanical artwork.
Wilderness
Inspired by the wonders of Northern America. Explore the striking Zebra swallowtail butterfly and majestic Bison of the Northwest. From tales of ancient creatures to their integration into cityscapes, this original ink artwork by Sharon Bonzaaier brings their narratives to life.
