We take pride in every part of our business.
As one of the first businesses in South Africa to be certified as a B Corp™ company we are very proud to join this global group that envisages a global economy that uses business as a force for good.
Our Story
Wren’s journey to becoming a B Corp™ began in 2020 while Wendren was browings website of brands she admired. She kept noticing the B Corp logo and decided to look into what it meant.
Over the years, Wendren had explored other certifications, but none reflected the kind of business she was building. B Corp™ stood out because it looked at the whole company — how it treats people, how it sources materials, how it makes decisions.
The process wasn’t about changing who we are. It was about formalising and strengthening what Wren had already been committed to since 2008: responsible design, transparency, and building a business that considers its impact on people and the planet.
Our Materials
Wren selects its raw materials based on their sustainability. Moments of inspiration come from local experiences and connections (read more about that here).
Wren’s main raw material is reclaimed paper that is re-routed from recycling plants where energy would be spent changing it into a new resource. Rather, Wren uses it in its current form and challenges the perceived durability and use of paper by creating what we call ProtectPaper®.
Wren’s products also carry a guarantee, making sure they are not simply for today but will last a long time. We believe that sustainability and durability are one and the same thing and practice this in raw material and with an end product that serves practical purposes.
Ethical Practices
Wren believes in doing business with both an ethical heart and a clear head. We aim to create meaningful employment that improves livelihoods — supporting not only individuals, but their families and, where possible, the wider community. Our focus is not short-term profit, but long-term sustainability and stability for everyone connected to the business.
Each year, we support selected a charitable initiative to give back. These have included partnering with the Lalela Foundation, where proceeds from our self-run campaigns funded art materials to spark creativity in children; supporting turtle rescue and rehabilitation programmes; producing pillows and cushions in our studio for women and children’s homes; and making beanbags from our batting off-cuts to create more comfortable learning spaces in libraries of underprivileged schools.
Using Business for Good
At Wren, business is a tool for positive change. We believe in creating thoughtful products while supporting the people who make them and the communities around us. Our approach considers impact at every level — from ethical practices to long-term sustainability.
Why B Corp™ Matters
B Corps™ exist to use business as a force for good — balancing profit with purpose through responsible products, practices, and decision-making. For Wren, becoming a B Corp™ was a natural alignment of values. We are proud to be among the first design and manufacturing studios in Southern Africa to achieve certification.
The Journey to Certification
Becoming a B Corp™ is a rigorous and reflective process. It required us to formalise our sustainability practices, document our systems, and set measurable goals for the future. Along the way, we realised how much we were already doing — and how powerful it is to name, record, and commit to those actions with intention.
Why did we join? Being based in Africa, we’ve sometimes had to work a little harder to prove what our clients quickly discover that we deliver exceptional quality, meet our deadlines, and operate with integrity. We didn’t want to keep convincing people of that. We wanted a globally recognised standard that could speak for us from the start.
B Corp™ provides that independent verification. It assures our customers and partners that Wren meets rigorous standards across our entire business, from materials and manufacturing to governance and community impact.
It’s not just a badge; it’s a framework that holds us accountable and keeps us improving.
